Síolta, is the quality framework for early childhood care and education in Ireland. Síolta is designed to allow early childhood care and education settings to evaluate their level of quality provision and to determine the quality of the service they are providing. Síolta does this by recognising elements of practice that are successful within the setting, as well as identifying aspects in need of attention and improvement. In this way, it acts as a tool to promote continuous quality improvement and planning.

In 2017, a new edition of the Síolta user manual was developed which replaces previous individual user manuals and is applicable to all early years settings including:

  • Full and Part-time Daycare
  • Sessional Services
  • Infant Classes
  • Childminding

The principles, standards and components contained within this manual are applicable to and for use by the above early years settings.

The following standards are particularly relevant to supporting inclusive practice:

Standard 1: Rights of the Child

Standard 2: Environments

Standard 3: Parents and Families

Standard 5: Interactions

Standard 6: Play

Standard 7: Curriculum

Standard 13: Transitions

Standard 14: Identity and Belonging
